BJR WEEKLY RECAP - February 1st through 5th
Rangers Battle Through Difficult Week
TEWKSBURY, MA -- In last week's recap, we referenced challenges that arise at this point of each season. Every team across the league is battling with injuries, as well as batting for playoff positioning. This past week proved to be a difficult one for both Rangers teams, but all is not lost just yet, with still a solid number of games remaining.
"It's definitely not how we envisioned the week going," said Rangers Premier head coach Rich DeCaprio. "While the losses are frustrating, we have to quickly regroup and turn the page towards the games remaining on each of our respective schedules."
PREMIER RECAP
For the Premier team this past week began with a rematch against the Valley Jr. Warriors, and then a pair of road games in Vermont against the Lumberjacks.
WEDNESDAY 2/1 - For the first 55+ plus minutes, Nolan Egbert and Sean Lincoln put on a show. Neither goalie looked beatable, until the Warriors scored a pair of late goals just 36 seconds apart from one another. Valley went on to win by that margin, 2-0 over the Rangers.
SATURDAY 2/4 - After a couple days of practice, the Rangers packed up and drove North to take on the Lumberjacks. For the 11th time this season, the Rangers played a game that needed extra time to decide a winner. Exactly one minute into overtime, Johnny Andrews gave the team their league-leading 9th OT/SO victory of the season, improving their record to 9-2 in those games.
SUNDAY 2/5 - One would think that the momentum of Saturday's win would carry over into Sunday, but that wasn't the case this past weekend for the Rangers. Sunday's game was controlled by Vermont from start to finish, as they rolled to a 4-0 victory at home.
19U ELITE RECAP
The 19U Elite Team had similar difficulties with the Vermont Lumberjacks this past weekend.
SATURDAY 2/4 and SUNDAY 2/5 - Both games started with the Rangers scoring first, but each game ended with Vermont out in front by three goals. Saturday's final was 6-3, and Sunday's score was 4-1. Andrew Bechard's seven-point weekend paced the Lumberjacks, while the Rangers seem to have done all they could against the top team in the North Conference.
