Both Rangers Teams Turn Things Around

TEWKSBURY, MA -- That's more like it! The Rangers Premier and 19U Elite teams combined for a perfect record this past weekend, putting the  Vermont trip in the rearview mirror. The perfect weekend keeps the Premier team locked in as the current #3 seed in the North Conference, the 19U Elite team sits just one point out of the playoff picture, with games in hand.

"It goes without saying, that was a much better weekend for both teams," said Rangers Premier head coach Rich DeCaprio. "After what we can call a below average weekend in Vermont, it was nice to see the whole organization bounce back."

PREMIER RECAP

For the Premier team, heading into the week the group knew how big of a test each game presented for them.

Friday 2/10 - The first game of the week brought with it another battle against the Walpole Express. In all of the previous matchups this season, extra time was needed to determine a winner, but for the first time this year, this game ended in 60 minutes.

Walpole had the first lead 1-0, and then the Rangers scored a pair of unanswered goals to make it 2-1. After Sean Plonski tied the score for the Express, Tyler Gardiner buried the game-winner with 6:45 remaining in the 3rd period.

Saturday 2/11 - The next day brought another tough, North Conference opponent, and a chance to play at SNHU Arena in downtown Manchester, New Hampshire. After jumping out to a 2-0 lead, the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs stormed back to take their own 4-3 over the Rangers. Mike McPherson tied things up late in the 2nd period for the Rangers, and then Henry Cormier got the only goal of the 3rd period, sending the Rangers to another huge win.

Nolan Egbert picked up each win between the pipes for the Rangers, and Johnny Andrews led the team offensively with a pair of goals and a pair of assists over the weekend.

19U ELITE RECAP

Due to the crazy weekend of weather, the Rangers Elite team only played one game this past weekend, Saturday night against the Boston Bandits.

Saturday 2/11 - After dropping a pair of games to the 1st place Vermont Lumberjacks, the 2nd place Bandits brought with them another big challenge. Having already lost to the Bandits by scores of 7-2 and 6-2 this season, the Rangers knew they needed to play a full 60 minutes against this opponent.

The Bandits jumped out to a 2-0 lead and led for most of the game, until Zach Norby finally got the Rangers even again in the 3rd period. There was no other scoring in the final frame, and just over a minute and a half into overtime, the Rangers bench erupted. Nick Cramer buried his 4th goal of the season,  giving the Rangers a huge win at home.

Ben Parker got the win in net for the home team, stopping 30 of the 34 shots he faced.
