EHL and EHLP Teams One Step Away from Providence

TEWKSBURY, MA -- Both Rangers squads took care of business in their playoff matchups this past weekend, as each team swept their respective opponent. The EHL squad beat the Seahawks Hockey Club in Tewksbury by a score of 4-2 in the first game, and finished off the job in Hyannis with an overtime win the very next day. 

On the other end, the Premier squad made quick work of the Vermont Lumberjacks in two straight games to advance to the New England Conference Finals for a fourth straight season. 

EHL

Connor Galloway led the way in game #1 with a pair of goals in a 4-2 victory. Both Martin Pietraszek and Steve Wesley had the other two goals in the win in Tewksbury. Billy Girard was terrific in net, stopping 32 shots in the contest.

The Rangers fell behind early in dame #2, but defensive captain, Mitchell Haight evened things up at one goal a piece in the 2nd frame. After a scoreless 3rd period, the TSR Hockey Top Performer of the series scored the series-clinching goal, as Galloway gave the Rangers the 2-1 overtime win in Hyannis. Girard was impressive between the pipes yet again, with 42 saves in the winning effort. 

EHLP

The Premier squad wasted no time getting going in their series as both Matt McPherson and Luke Marsh scored 1st period goals to take an early two-goal lead in game #1. Josh Barton added a power-play goal in the 2nd period, followed by a short-handed goal from Levi Hensley a few minutes later, as the Rangers took a 4-1 lead into the 2nd intermission. Emils Zelcs gave the Rangers some insurance in the 3rd frame as the boys won by a sore of 5-1 in game #1. Bobby McCloskey stopped 26 shots in the win. 

McPherson led the way in game #2 with a pair of goals and a pair of assists (four points), as the Rangers shutout the Lumberjacks by a score of 7-0 in the series-clinching victory. The Rangers power-play unit was clicking, going 4/5 (80%) in the contest. Max Stephens added a short-handed goal to the Rangers lead as well. McCloskey was solid in net yet again, stopping all 21 shots that he faced in the shutout win. 

Looking Ahead

The EHL squad will face-off against the top-seed New Hampshire Avalanche this upcoming weekend. Game #1 of the series is scheduled for Friday afternoon in Hooksett at 3:30pm. Game #2 will be played in Tewksbury at 5:00pm on Saturday, and if nesscary, game #3 will be played back at the Ice Den at 1:00pm on Sunday. 

The Premier squad on the other hand, will start their Conference Finials this upcoming Friday against the New England Wolves at Breakaway Ice Center at 7:30pm. Game #2 will be played at 2:00pm on Saturday, and if necessary, game #3 will be played in Laconia on Sunday at 2:15pm.
