EHL and EHLP Teams Combine for Perfect Record

TEWKSBURY, MA -- Both Rangers squads took care of business this past weekend as the EHL team beat the East Coast Wizards on Friday and then scored 12 goals in a win on Saturday against the Railers Jr. Hockey Club. After both of the victories, the Rangers sit in 5th place in the New England Conference with a record of 5-2-0.

The EHLP squad won their lone game of the week against the Railers and have moved into a tie for 2nd place in their conference, with a record of 5-1-0.

EHL

On Friday afternoon, the EHL squad traveled to Bedford for the first of four matchups against the East Cast Wizards. After falling behind 2-0, Tom Skold put the Rangers on the board with a power play goal early on in the 2nd period. Jake Blackwell added another goal on the man advantage to knot up the game at 2 goals a piece. The Wizards took back the lead midway through the third, but Connor Doherty answered with 5:17 left on the clock to send the game into overtime. It didn't take long in the extra frame for Will Fisher to score his 3rd goal of the season just 1:22 into the overtime to give the Rangers the 4-3 win. Billy Girard was solid between the pipes, stopping 36 shots in the overtime win.

On Saturday night, the Railers Jr. Hockey Club came to town for the first of four meetings between the two teams this season. The Rangers got off to a hot start as both Joey Schaefer and Mitch Gillespie scored goals just 11 seconds apart to make it a 2-0 game. Brent Rickett added another goal early on in the second period, but the Railers responded with a pair of goal themselves to cut the lead down to 3-2. Around the halfway mark of the frame, Rickett converted on a penalty shot chance for his 4th goal of the young season to give the Rangers a 2 goal advantage. The Railers took a penalty in the winding minutes of the period and Andrew Keith beat the clock, scoring with just 1 second left to put the boys ahead 5-2 before the intermission. Connor Galloway added another goal just 13 seconds into the third and the Rangers didn't look back from there, scoring 6 more times in the frame to win the game by a final score of 12-7. Schaefer (2), Doherty (2), Martin Pietraszek, and Connor Bizal had the third period goals. Blackwell collected 4 assists in the win while Skold, Nathan Young, and Mitch Haight each earned 3. Jacob George stopped 29 shots in route to his 1st win of the season.

EHLP

On Sunday afternoon, the Premier squad hosted the Railers for the second of six matchups this season. Matt McPherson gave the Rangers the early lead on the power play just over 4 minutes into the game. After a scoreless reset of the period, Nate Rider scored from a shot from the point to give the Rangers a 2 goal advantage. Just a few minutes after that, Nick Snyder converted on the power play to increase the lead to 3. The Railers answered with a goal of their own later on in the frame, but Ryan Bailey scored off the ensuing face-off just 7 seconds later to make it a 4-1 game. Despite a pair of goals by the Railers in the third, Bailey added an empty netter in the final minute and the Rangers won by a final score of 5-3. Logan Palmer stopped 28 shots for his 3rd win of the season.
