EHL Defenseman Set to Join Red Dragons this Fall

TEWKSBURY, MA -- The Boston Jr. Rangers are pleased to announce that John Kuhl has committed to SUNY Cortland for the fall of 2020. The '99 native of Essex Fells, NJ joined the Rangers in mid-December, and dressed in 16 games down the stretch for his final team. The defensive-defenseman added an extra physical presence on the Rangers' blue line, and picked up a trio of points down the stretch.

"We are very happy for John on his commitment to Cortland," said EHL head coach and general manager Rich DeCaprio. "I truly believe his abilities are underrated. His game will only get better in college, and I look forward to following him at the next level."

Kuhl is the 4th EHL player from the 2019-20 season, that has chosen Cortland for this upcoming fall. Overall, Kuhl is also the 1st player in Rangers history to commit to the Red Dragons program. While juniors was a long road for the veteran defenseman, he's very glad that the final stop brought him to the Rangers organization.

"I came to the Boston Junior Rangers right before the winter holidays and was welcomed immediately by both the players and coaching staff," said Kuhl. "Coach Rich and Coach Aucoin believed in me and gave me an opportunity to develop my game and reach the next level. They were very instrumental in my growth and my commitment to SUNY Cortland. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were unable to compete for a playoff title. This abrupt ending was really emotional and I was super sad to leave the team so soon. I wish I could’ve spent more time with everyone. I will never forget this great experience and playing for the Boston Junior Rangers."

Kuhl is the 14th NCAA Commitment and counting from the 2019-20 season. As he mentioned, the ending to the season was abrupt and sudden, but it still should not take away from what Kuhl and his Rangers teammates accomplished.
