EHL Team Wins 2 of 3 -- Kern Earns EHLP Honor

TEWKSBURY, MA -- It was a busy holiday week/weekend for both Boston Jr. Rangers teams. The EHLP team won a pair of games against the New England Wolves, while the EHL team took care of business in 2 of their 3 total matchups.

"The teams are each playing well," said Rangers EHL head coach and general manager Rich DeCaprio. "We obviously wish we could have finished the weekend on the better note, but even despite the EHL team's loss on Monday, a combined 4-1-0 record is still pretty good for the week."

DeCaprio referenced Monday's loss, which came at the hands of the East Coast Wizards and leaves the Rangers EHL team with a record of 7-2-0 heading into the October Showcase.

Below you'll find breakdowns of each team's games from this past week.

On Saturday night, the Rangers traveled down to Hyannis, Massachusetts, to take on a fellow division opponent in the Total Athletic Seahawks. After the 2nd period the Rangers found themselves trailing 2-1, before two quick goals in the 3rd period scored by Anthony Nikolopolous and Danny Sorabella. The Seahawks would go on to tie the game with a goal by Brendan Kraus, sending the game to overtime. It only took 42 seconds into overtime for Danny Sorbella to score his 2nd goal of the game and put the Rangers in the win column. Rangers goalie Ben Parker made 33 saves in his 1st win of the season.

The Rangers remained on the road on Sunday when they traveled down to Hamden, Connecticut to play the Oilers. The boys jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 1st period and never looked back, winning by a final score of 7-1. They were dominant in the win, outshooting the Oilers 52-25. Tyler Gardiner tallied 2 goals and 1 assist in the victory as he currently owns a 4-game point streak and Nolan Egbert stopped 24 of 25 shots to give him his 6th win of the season.

Finally, the Rangers returned home on Columbus Day to welcome the red hot East Coast Wizards to town. Despite outshooting the Wizards 33-28, they couldn't find the back of the net for much of the game. Zack Norby had the lone goal for the Rangers after an impressive rush and assist from teammate Daniil Ovchinnkov. Unfortunately that was it for the Rangers' offense in a 3-1 defeat. After this weekend, the Rangers still sit in first place in the Boston Division with a record of 7-2-0.

Switching gears to the EHLP squad, where they had a successful week with 2 wins against the New England Wolves. On Wednesday, the boys traveled up to Laconia, New Hampshire, where they beat the Wolves by a score of 6-2. Eric Roberts had 2 goals, and Dean Kern picked up the win between the pipes.

On Saturday, the Rangers EHLP team welcomed the Wolves to Tewksbury with a 7-1 win. Kern was in net once again, and he received a TSR Star of the Week honor after stopping 60 of the 63 shots that he faced in the 2 victories. Kern will look to maintain a stellar 1.67 GAA  in the upcoming weeks. The win gives the Rangers a record of 3-2-0 before the Brewster Showcase this weekend.

Looking Ahead

Both the EHL and the EHLP have showcases scheduled for this weekend. The EHL squad travels to Rodman Arena in Walpole, Massachusetts, where they play the New York Applecare on Friday and the Connecticut Roughriders on Saturday.

The EHLP team travels down to Brewster, New York to take on the New Jersey Renegades, New York Applecare, and Jersey Wildcats.
