Rangers' Teams Enjoy First Round Byes

EHL and EHLP Squads Set to Begin Postseason Play

TEWKSBURY, MA -- Both Rangers teams have clinched a spot in the postseason along with First Round byes. The EHL team will enter the playoffs as a #2 seed, as they await to find out their opponent in the North Conference Playoffs. The EHLP on the other hand, enters the playoffs as following their Regular Season Championship, as they hold down the top spot in their conference.

EHL

The EHL squad finished the regular season on a six-game winning streak and won nine out of their last ten games going into the playoffs. The team ended up clinching the Boston Division Championship in the second to last game of the regular season, and finished up with a record of 38-11-1. 

The native of Russia, Daniil Ovchinnikov, led the Rangers in scoring this season with 17 goals and 41 assists (58 points) along with nine game-winning goals. Salem State commit, Ryan Tierney, and Wesleyan University commit, Danny Sorabella, finished tied for second in points with 46 each. Zach Norby led the Rangers in goals with 20 and was also the only Rangers' skater to dress in all 50 games this season. EHL All-Star, Nick Grinvalds, led all defensemen on the Rangers in points this year with 32. Nolan Egbert led the Rangers in wins between the pipes with 26 to go along with a GAA of 2.32 and a pair of shutouts. The Rangers other netminder, Ben Parker, dressed for all 50 games this season and recorded a 12-2-0 record while maintaining a stellar 2.08 GAA and a .932 save percentage.  

The Rangers will await their Second Round matchup until the First Round is complete. The best-of-three series is set to start on Friday, March 16th, at the Breakaway Ice Center.

EHLP

The EHLP team finished the regular season with a series split against the Walpole Express this past weekend. The Rangers ended their regular season on top of the North Conference with a record of 37-4-3 and earned a First Round bye in the playoffs. 

The native of Latvia, Danila Larionovs, led the Rangers in scoring this season with 25 goals and 36 assists (61 points). Steve Wesley finished tied for first on the team in goals and finished second on the Rangers in points with 57. Kyle Welch put up 40 points in just 25 games for the Rangers, which comes out to 1.60 average points per game. Cam Roberts made his impact felt from the blue line this season, leading all other Rangers defensemen in points with 33. The Rangers got a collected effort from all four of their goaltenders this season as Dean Krul led the pack with 14 wins and had a GAA of 1.96. Spencer Krul was tied for second on the team in wins with eight, and both Cam Bernard and Bobby Mccloskey combined for a perfect 15-0-0 record.  

The Rangers will await their Second Round matchup and will take on the winner of the #4 Valley Jr. Warriors vs. #5 New England Wolves. The single elimination Second Round matchup is set for Saturday, March 10th at 5:00pm in Tewksbury.
