EHL Forward Set to Join Cardinals this Fall

TEWKSBURY, MA -- The Boston Jr. Rangers are pleased to announce that Daniil Ovchinnikov has committed to SUNY Plattsburgh for the Fall of 2018. The '97 from St. Petersburgh, Russia played in 54 of 55 games this past season for the Rangers, as he joined the team just days after the season opener.

"I had my sights set on Ovi at the Wilderness Main Camp," said Rangers EHL head coach and general manager Rich DeCaprio. "I knew right away if we could get him he would have a tremendous impact for our team and our league. It took a little patience to get him, but when the time was right we got him here. He's a great kid and one of the best players I've had the pleasure of coaching in my career. His skill set, size, and skating ability was unmatched in our league. Plattsburgh is getting a phenomenal player and a great kid as well!"

DeCaprio referenced the forward's offensive abilities, and this is proven through the 63 total points that he racked up over the course of the season. Ovchinnikov found the back of the net 18 times, and dished out a phenomenal 45 assists. While these two numbers push Ovchinnikov into more of the 'Playmaker' category, the nine game-winning goals say otherwise for the Russian. They say big players score big goals, and Ovchinnikov did just that, as 50% of his tallies won hockey games for his team.

"It was a great experience playing for the Rangers," said Ovchinnikov. "It was the best decision I've made throughout my whole junior career. Not just the BJR program, but the whole league helped me improve myself on and off the ice. Both EHL and EHLP teams were like a family to me, they showed me great support throughout the whole year. The coaches helped me to get to where I am now, as I have reached my goal of playing college hockey in the USA. It all came true because of them."

While the Rangers season ended sooner than they had hoped, Ovchinnikov and the rest of his team can be very proud of all that they accomplished throughout the year. The Russian forward is player to definitely keep an eye on when he gets to college, and he'll be quickly reunited alongside his Rangers teammate Matt Araujo at Plattsburgh.
