EHL and EHLP Teams Climb Up the Standings

TEWKSBURY, MA -- After a busy week in the Rangers organization, the EHL and EHLP squads came away with a combined record of 5-0-1 record. The EHL team won their first 2 games of the week before falling in overtime on Sunday. They then won their final game before the EHL All-Star Weekend, bringing their record up to 8-5-1 heading into the short break.

The EHLP team on the other hand took care of business in all 3 of their matchups, winning by a combined score of 22-1, to improve their record to 7-2-1 on the year.

EHL

On Wednesday, the EHL squad traveled to Haverhill to face-off against the Valley Jr. Warriors for the 1st of 5 matchups against their divisional opponent. Go Uemura got things going early for the Rangers with a goal just under 4 minutes into the contest. The Warriors would respond with a goal of their own in the 2nd frame to tie up the score at 1 apiece. The defensive battle continued until Danila Larionovs found the back of the net near the 6-minute mark of the 3rd period to take a 2-1 lead. Billy Girard was able to hold off the Warriors for the rest of the game, stopping 28 shots in the winning effort.

The squad got back to work this past weekend starting with a matchup against the Connecticut Roughriders. Saturday’s game marked the first of 2 meetings against conference opponent this season. After a scoreless 1st period, Jake Maynard found the back of the net around the halfway point of the middle frame to give the Rangers a 1-goal advantage. However, the RoughRiders would respond with a goal of their own just under a minute later to knot up the game at 1 apiece. After a scoreless 3rd period, the Rangers went on a power-play early in overtime, and that's where Jonah Nash capitalized to give the Rangers the 2-1 victory. Aiden Curry was solid between the pipes stopping 39 out of 40 shots in the win.

The boy continued their busy week with a game against the East Coast Wizards the very next afternoon. After 2 scoreless periods, Andrew Keith got the game’s 1st goal on the power-play just over a minute into the 3rd frame. The Wizards would answer a few minutes later to knot up the game at 1-1. The Rangers headed to overtime for a 2nd straight day, but this one did not end up in their favor, as the Wizards scored early in overtime to win by a final of 2-1. Girard stopped 36 shots in the loss.

Wrapping up play before the All-Star Weekend, the Rangers picked up 2 more points yesterday afternoon. A total of 6 different goal scorers, along with 21 saves from Curry, paved the way to a 6-0 victory for the Rangers over the New England Wolves.

EHLP

On Friday, the EHLP squad traveled to square off against the Valley Jr. Warriors for the 2nd of 6 matchups this season. Brad Mackin found the back of the net just over 3 minutes into the game and the Rangers never looked back. Xander Wardlaw followed with a power-play goal a few minutes later to give the Rangers a 2-goal lead. Ian Wark would add a goal near the end of the period to give the Rangers a commanding 3-0 advantage at the break. Both Cam Mackenzie and Jake Mecrones scored quick 2nd period goals to increase the lead out to 5. From there, the Rangers continued to pour it on with 2 more goals in the frame from Matt McPherson and Emils Zelcs. The squad picked up right where they left off in the 3rd period, by adding 5 more goals to their score. Tanner Caldarola, McPherson, Mackenzie, Mitch Gillespie, and Nick Weaver had the 3rd period goals, as Cam Libby stopped all 14 shots that he faced in the 12-0 victory.

The team returned home the very next day for a matchup against the New England Wolves. Saturday’s game marked the 2nd of 7 matchups against their division rival this season. The Rangers lost the 1st matchup at the end of last month, but Saturday was a different story. Wardlaw got the scoring going for the Rangers around the 7-minute mark of the first frame and they didn't look back from there. Luke Marsh and Matt Orlando added 2nd period goals to give the Rangers a 3-0 lead going into the final frame. McPherson and Mecrones found the back of the net in that final frame to lead the boys to a 5-0 victory. Bobby McCloskey was solid between the pipes stopping all 37 shots that he faced for his second shutout of the season.

Looking Ahead

The EHL team will now enjoy a short break as John Grealish and Aiden Curry head out to join the league's All-Star Team this weekend.
