EHL Team Returns to Action Following All-Star Weekend

TEWKSBURY, MA -- One successful week leads into another for the Rangers organization as both the EHL and EHLP teams combined to go 4-0-0 over the past 7 days. With the wins, the EHL squad moved into 1st place in their division, owning a mark of 8-5-1 through their first 14 games of the year. On the other hand, the EHLP squad has closed the gap on the New England Wolves, as they sit just 1 point behind them for the top spot in the conference. The EHLP team is 9-2-1 through their first 12 games, and they've also won their last 6 contests.

EHL

This past Wednesday, the EHL team welcomed the New England Wolves to town for the 1st of 4 meetings with their division rival. The Wolves came into Wednesday’s game with a record of 4-7-0, and had lost their last 3 straight games.

Connor Galloway put the Rangers on the board around the 7-minute mark of the 1st frame, giving his team the early 1-0 lead. The game remained 1-0, until Martin Pietraszek found the back of the net on the power-play around the 6-minute mark of the 2nd period.

From there, the Rangers began to pour it on with 4 goals in the 3rd period from Cam Roberts, Will Roberts, Johan Nash, and Zach Norby. The explosive final frame, propelled the Rangers to a 6-0 victory. Aiden Curry was solid between the pipes, stopping all 21 shots that came his way for his 1st shutout of the season.

EHLP

On Wednesday, the EHLP team faced-off against the Valley Jr. Warriors for the 3rd time this season. The Rangers handled their division rival in the previous 2 matchups, beating them by a combined score of 22-1. This past Wednesday wasn't much different.

Luke Marsh got things going around the 12-minute mark of the 1st frame to put the Rangers up 1-0. Tanner Caldarola followed with a goal a few minutes later as the squad went into the 1st intermission with a 2-0 advantage. Jake Mecrones then converted on the power-play early in the 2nd period to stretch out the lead to 3 goals. However, the Warriors would answer on a penalty shot to cut the deficit back down to 2. From there the Rangers never looked back though, as Caldarola found the back of the net for the 2nd time near the end of the frame, and Artjoms Jankovics added an insurance goal in the 3rd period. Cam Libby stopped 15 shots in the 5-1 victory.

The squad got right back into things this past weekend as they hosted the Central Penn Panthers for a pair of matchups. On Saturday, the Rangers wasted no time as Nick Weaver found the back of the net in the opening minutes of the contest to give the boys the early lead. Just over 3 minutes later, Steve Johnson converted on the power play to give the Rangers a 2-0 advantage. The game remained scoreless until the final minutes of the 2nd frame, when both Levi Hensley and Mecrones found the back of the net under a minute apart to give the Rangers a commanding 4-0 lead going into the final period. The Rangers would go on to score 3 more times in the 3rd and won the game by the final score of 7-1. Weaver, Caldarola, and Justin Sorabella had the 3rd period goals, all while Bobby McClousky was made 22 total saves between the pipes.

On Sunday, the squad returned to the rink to square off against the same opponent from a day ago and the result was nearly identical. Caldarola found the back of the net to give the Rangers the early lead in the 1st period, and they never looked back from there. Mecrones (2), Hensley, and Dennis Engelson scored 2nd period goals to give the Rangers a commanding 5-0 advantage heading into the final frame. Caldarola and Weaver added 3rd period insurance goals to pad their lead, as the Rangers won by a final score of 7-0. Ryan Bevan stopped all 18 shots that he faced for his 1st shutout of the season.

Looking Ahead

The EHL team will get back to work this upcoming week with a pair of matchups at home, starting with the Connecticut Chiefs on Wednesday and followed by a battle with the Philadelphia Revolution on Sunday.

The EHLP team on the other hand, will face-off against the Walpole Express for a pair of home matchups on Saturday and Sunday.
